With Halloween being only a day away, we felt it was only right to dedicate this week's Throwback Thursday to the Halloween costumes of yesteryear. While we certainly have our own unique brand of costumes living in a city full of art students, there's just something rather remarkable about these vintage costumes. Maybe it's just that the black & white of the photographs make them seem especially nostalgic or the fact that even though times were much simpler then, it's evident that people still dedicated a great amount of thought & effort to making elaborate costumes. Either way, we can't get enough of all these amazing costumes! Check them out to get some inspiration for your own costume this year & have a Happy Halloween!

Throwback Thursday: Halloween Costumes

Currently Inspired: Halloween
It's hard to believe that Halloween is only 2 weeks away! It seems like it was just last week that we were enjoying the heat of summer with afternoons on the beach & picnics in the park. Oh wait, maybe that was just last week, as summer temperatures seem to keep their grasp on Savannah well into October. Hah! But finally, the weather is starting cool (it's in the high 60s/low 70s today!) & the residents of Savannah are beginning to deck out their houses with cob webs, orange lights, & all sorts of spooky surprises. You can almost feel the excitement in the air as young children get ready to go trick-or-treating for the first time & Savannah's more artistic residents (I'm looking at you, SCAD students) put the finishing touches on their homemade costumes. It's definitely one of our favorite holidays & there's no place in the world we'd rather spend it than in Savannah.

Behind the Glass: Clue
Here at The Paris Market we absolutely love Halloween! And as much as we love planning out our costumes for ourselves, we love dressing up our windows here at the store even more. This year we were especially excited to debut our windows & if you haven't guessed the theme yet, they're based on the classic, murder mystery board-game, Clue! Take a guess to see if you can figure out who done it!, where they did it, and which weapon they used in each vignette. And just in case you're stumped, we've included the answers at the bottom of this post! As always, be sure to stop by the store soon to see the full effect of these awesome Halloween windows!

Behind the Glass: The Birds
Continuing with our Halloween window displays, our second storefront window draws upon another Alfred Hitchcock classic for inspiration. Yesterday we were caught looking out our Rear Window and today we're being chased by swarms of birds. Set in a small northern California town, The Birds is a bizarre film in which birds begin aggressively attacking the townspeople. Although our display won't be attacking customers in the store, it still manages to reflect the chilling and disturbing nature of the 1963 film. Like all of our window displays, you have to see them in person for the full effect, so be sure to stop by soon for a unique glimpse into some of the most classic scenes in film history!

Behind the Glass: Rear Window
With Halloween right around the corner we felt it was high time we set up a window display that reflects the approaching frightful holiday! Inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's classic 1954 film Rear Window, our new window display transports you right into L.B. Jefferies' (James Stewart) living room. Referencing the claustrophobic, anxiety-filled emotions James Stewart undergoes within the film, we wanted to keep our window equally as unsettling. The only thing missing from this scene is the terror-filled James Stewart himself. Check back tomorrow to see what classic film inspired our second window display!
