Currently Inspired: The Ludlow Pendant

Lighting is one of the most important features to consider in any given space. All too often, beautiful spaces are poorly lit, thus diminishing the potential of the space they inhabit. However, when chosen correctly, lighting fixtures not only illuminate a room but they also bring warmth, ambience and a charisma to the room as well. The Ludlow Pendant is one of our current favorite fixtures to incorporate into a space. Both nostalgic and modern, the Ludlow combines two of our favorite elements, history and functionality. Forged from locally sourced reclaimed wood, each pendant is a piece of Savannah history. Finished with a row of modern Edison lightbulbs, the Ludlow Pendant brings an old-world charm and a warm glow to your favorite room.

For the Table: Handmade Napkin Rings

When we begin setting our table, whether it be for a simple meal for two or an entire spread for all of our friends and family, we like to be able to bring something that makes the table truly unique. In many cases, napkin rings can seem like an over embellishment and the last thing we want is to make a meal feel too formal and alienate our guests. However, when done right, napkin rings can really add that extra nuance to the table, bringing a subtle accent to the rest of the decor. Such is the case with our latest collection of wooden napkin rings, handmade by Collin Garrity. A beautiful assortment of exotic woods, each napkin ring matches its quality with beauty and undoubtedly brings life to each place setting at the table. Perfect for small or large gatherings, formal and informal, and unquestionably a beautiful accent to your table, these handmade napkin rings are an absolute must have this spring!

From Children's Toys to Fashion Accessories

When it comes to seeing his name and work pop up on our blog, instagram our Facebook page, Collin Garrity is no stranger. As our in-house woodworker, Collin is always coming up with some new and exciting project to contribute to the store, which makes it all the easier to talk about him. Collin's breadth of work has been expanding since day one, leaving his comfort zone of children's toys to explore new territory of lighting fixtures, furniture, Christmas ornaments and fashion accessories, which brings us to what we're most excited about at the moment. Recently contacted by one of France's leading fashion designers Christophe Lemaire, Collin created numerous handmade wooden toggles that act as clasps on Lemaire's current line of belts. As you can see from the photos below (courtesy of Elle France) Collin's toggles have now been featured in Vogue UK, Elle France and have been seen walking down the runway of Paris' Fashion Week! Our excitement is through the roof and Collin is living proof that you never know where things may take you and to live out one's passion in life is an absolute must.

From ChristopheLemaire.com :

Christophe Lemaire designs the clothes he would like to wear himself, and the result is possibly the most universal garde-robe. The ideal wardrobe is the perennial theme of his collections, timeless yet precise garments for each one to mix according to the mood and moment to create a very personal unform. He solves the equation of a garment that is completely wearable for a diverse range of individuals looking for pieces both quiet and singular.

In june 2010, Christophe Lemaire is named artistic director of Hermès women ready to wear and presented his first collection in march with cordial welcome. “The choice was made very naturally. Christophe Lemaire designs sport chic garments exactly in the spirit of the ones created by Hermès since the 1920’s says Pierre Alexis Dumas, artistic director of the house, seduced by his perennial approach to fashion.”

A Corner for Comfort

One of our favorite corners in the store is this cozy little bedroom nook. Filled with the warm glow of Edison bulbs and the comforting arrangement of eclectic objects, the urge to lay down and take a nap has never seemed like a better idea. The corner is filled with great finds, including matching mounted stags, a handcrafted chess set, vintage luggage, oil portraits, and soft bed comforters just to name a few. With everything unified in soothing, muted earth tones, it's a wonder we don't find more customers stretching out on these beautiful twin beds! Despite being a full corner, this display is surprisingly minimal, keeping your mind and room at ease while you slumber.

The Game of Chess

When it comes to games, there's nothing more classic than chess. With strategy, logic, and chaos all on the board, you have to make every move count. On its surface chess appears to be a fairly simple game, however, in reality it is one of the most intellectually stimulating and challenging games one can play. We've always been fans of chess, however our fondness has only been amplified with obtaining our newest set. Created with a minimalist design, our new chess set brings a modern touch to this historic game. Carefully carved out of exotic woods, this one of a kind set was made using reclaimed pieces of wood from the off-cuts of various pieces of furniture. The clean design and miniature-sized board offer engaging and intimate rounds of strategic warfare. Its portable size and lightweight design make for the perfect set to bring to your favorite coffee shop or bench in the park. Designed by one of our very own, Collin Garrity's chess set sheds new light on the game for us, enticing us to challenge one another in a modern round of strategy and logic.
