This Just In: Carrière Frères

We are so excited to announce that we are now carrying Carrière Frères scents here at the Paris Market! And they might just have the most unique backstory of any line of scents we've ever carried. The innovative Carrière brothers began making candles in 1884 when they set out with the goal of reinventing the candle-making process. They had perfected their process by the 1889 Universal Exposition, where they were awarded a gold medal for their long-burning "night lights," and soon after became the official wax supplier to the Basilica of Sacré-Coeur in Paris. Over a hundred years later, Carrière Frères is still dedicated to the original principles that inspired the Carrière brothers from the start. Their singular scents continue to be made after the exotic & indigenous oils that fascinated the botanists & explorers of the 18th century. And their fragrances are crafted in the region of Grasse, the world capital of perfumery. The candles themselves are carefully hand-poured & each wick is made of pure cotton & is specially woven to provide the optimal burn. And for the final finishing touch, the candles are housed in glass that has been white-lacquered by a specialist. Be sure to stop by the store soon so you can see for yourself why we are absolutely obsessed with these scents!

This Just In: Savon De Marseille

Just in time for the weekend, Savon de Marseille is back in stock! Fresh from the hills of Provence, these beautiful blocks of soap have been and always will be, one of our favorite soaps. It takes the Maitre de Savon (soapmaster) two weeks to make Savon de Marseille. The delicate mixture of olive oil, alkaline ash from sea plants and Mediterranean Sea salted water are heated for ten days in antique cauldrons, then poured into open pits where it hardens. Cut into cubes and stamped, the soaps are then set out to dry in the sun and mistral winds. Subtle and timeless scents like Lavender, Rose and Olive Oil make each block of soap the perfect cleansing product to have at home. And this weekend we're stocking up!

Happy Bastille Day!

Today we celebrate France's National Day, La Fête Nationale - commemorating the day in 1789 when crowds stormed the Bastille fortress, marking the beginning of the French Revolution. It's a day we like to celebrate with a nice bottle of French wine, a small assortment of cheeses and as many red, white and blue themed items as we can find! We don't plan on storming any castles today, but we will certainly be honoring and celebrating the brave men and women who fought for their freedom centuries ago. Enjoy our collection of celebratory red, white and blue items and have a Happy Bastille Day!

Weekend Inspiration: Boulangerie Essentials

The weekend is almost upon us and we're ready for some much needed R and R. Over the past few months we've been working hard to refine our cafe's menu in an effort to make the best of a Parisian boulangerie available in our cafe. As we've begun carrying a delicious array of pastries and savories from our two favorite local bakeries, Back in the Day Bakery and Baker's Pride, we couldn't help but feel inspired by the tradition of a boulangerie. So, we thought this weekend was as good as any to try out a few recipes in our own home! To help us get started we've set aside a few boulangerie essentials and hopefully (with a little trial and error) we'll have a few successes to write about! If not, then at least we can enjoy the baker's process and a tradition that we can't imagine life without. Have a great weekend and bon appetit!

On the Table: Fromage Feast

This past weekend marked the official start of summer so we decided we would kick it off with a table set for cheese lovers like us! On hot summer days, a refreshing light meal is ideal. Overeating and overheating is a dangerous combination, and we've found a delicious and simple cheese course is easily one of the best options out there. Incorporating a mix of our favorite olive wood and teak tableware with several pieces of vintage china makes this French fromage feast an inviting setting for enjoying a light cheese course, even in the heat of the summer season. Happy summer and bon appetit!

On the Table: Early Summer Gathering

It's hard not to love summer. Everything seems to slow down this time of year, which is a refreshing break from the typical chaos leading up to the summer. It's also the time of year when it's much easier to find time to visit with friends and family. Sitting down for an evening meal outdoors is just about as good as life can get and we plan on doing plenty of it this summer! With our latest tablescape, we've incorporated our favorite summertime linens and cloths for a light summer feast. Vintage gold-rimmed plates, enamelware mugs and colorful French flatware make this table the perfect setting to gather around, catch up with old friends and make new summer memories in the south. Dinner may not be ready just yet, but at least we can set the table for when it is. Bon Appetit!
