On the Shelf: Low Country Luxe's Southern Botanical Candles

We're firm believers in finding inspiration wherever you live. For us, there's nothing more invigorating than being immersed in our local surroundings. We know it's unrealistic to think we can spend all of our time lounging by the sea or taking a boat ride through the marshes, but given the opportunity, we would want nothing more! There are endless reasons why we love Low Country Luxe candles, but the one thing that really makes them special to us is their ability to capture the subtle aromas and scents found in the Low Country. A place like Savannah can't be pinned down to one scent, because in reality it has numerous fragrances that make it memorable and Low Country Luxe has found the perfect balance in their southern candles. When life has us too busy to stroll along Tybee's shore, or nap underneath the oak trees dappled with spanish moss, Low Country Luxe's candles do a great job of making us believe we are doing just that.

Candle of the Week: Green Moss

The sun is shining, birds are chirping and flowers are blooming, spring is most definitely here! One of our favorite ways to embrace the change of seasons is to rid the stale scent of winter that continues to linger throughout the house. Opening windows doesn't always do the job, which is exactly when we turn to one of our favorite candles to complete the task at hand. We're pretty picky when it comes to fragrances and scents, and there's just something about Izola's line of candles that really makes them stand out from the all the other endless options available. Maybe it reminds us of the spanish moss that hangs from our trees in Savannah, but we can't get enough of their Green Moss candle, which is why we've made it our candle of the week! Red Cedar Incense

Scents, fragrances, aromas, or anything else that might pleasantly trigger our sense of smell is bound to excite us. Even with the volume of holiday candles we've been stocking our shelves with, our new Red Cedar incense cones are just too darn great not to talk about! Packaged in a beautiful red and gold box, this set of 32 cones will undoubtedly bring you hours and hours of a delightful scent of nature. The set includes a wooden burner, so you don't have to worry about finding the right base to burn the incense on. We are in fragrance heaven today! Colorfully wrapped soaps with beautiful illustrations are filling the shelves of our boudoir cabinet and we can't get enough! With scents like oak moss, lime basil and spiced citrus, you're bound to find your new favorite soap on our shelves!

Juniper Ridge

Fragrance from real plants, bark , moss, mushrooms and other things found hiking the backcountry. An aromatic snapshot of life on the trail. -Juniper Ridge

Bars of soap, cabin spray, bottles of trail crew soap and backpackers cologne are just a few products available from the outdoorsy line known as Juniper Ridge. We were instantly drawn to their natural scents, but it's their process that sold us. Just as their souvenir folder states, they go to the mountains, harvest wild plants and then they distill natural fragrances right on the spot. As the Ridge crew admits, "We're not perfumers, we're hikers, and we make fragrance from the places we love". Juniper Ridge was founded in December of 1998 at the Berkeley Farmers Market by avid hiker, mushroom forager and all around nature freak Hall Newbegin. 

According to Hall, “Juniper Ridge was founded on a very simple idea – I wanted to make fragrances that smelled like the outdoors, like the real places that I knew and loved as a hiker. Nothing smells better than taking a hike in the Bay Laurel and Oak woodlands of Mt. Tamalpais, the sage covered mountains of the Big Sur or the Timberline Trail on Mt. Hood in the height of wildflower summer. The subtle aromas you pick up when you’re on the trail are so incredibly evocative– they sink in deep and rearrange your insides and take you away to the stillness of the outdoors. Smell is the oldest of our five senses - it was with us 65 million years ago when we were just rodents crawling around on the forest floor and, being the oldest of our senses, bypasses reason and goes straight to our emotions. But most folks don’t even understand the beauty of real fragrance because all we’ve known for the past 60 years is a cruddy, petrochemical shadow of the real thing."

This Just In: The Aromas of The Archivist

It should come as no surprise that we are suckers for a good scent, especially when it comes in the form of a candle. Recently added to our shelves, The Archivist has been winning us over with their subtle aromas. Never overwhelming, these candles come in a variety of scents, including Wood, Herbs, Vintage, Grove, Lavender, and Tomato and Lime.
