Dr. Fabre's Micropolis: From The Jepson Center to The Paris Market & Brocante

Last week was a whirlwind of strings of lights, sparkly ornaments & everything in between as we completely transformed the store for Christmas. And with all our excess energy going towards mentally preparing ourselves for the holiday season, Rooms With A View had all but slipped into the back of our minds. However, our room, Dr. Fabre's Micropolis, won't be far from our minds any longer, as it is now installed right here at The Paris Market & Brocante. So for those of you who didn't get a chance to make it out when it was on display at The Jepson Center, now's your chance. Stop by the store soon & see the wonder that is Dr. Fabre's Micropolis for yourself!

Rooms With A View: Dr. Fabre's Micropolis

Although we're relieved to have a respite from all the hard work, we can't help but feel a tinge of sadness that Rooms With A View has now come to an end. Every detail of our room was carefully planned & constructed & it was truly a wonderful experience seeing it all come together. For those of you that didn't make it out to the Jepson this weekend to see it, our room was based on Jean-Henri Casimir Fabre (1823-1915), an entomologist from the south of France. From an encaustic piece featuring golden cicadas to a dome full of beautiful butterflies to entomology drawers full of specimens ranging from colorful to creepy, bugs filled just about every nook & cranny of our room. So without further ado, we present: Dr. Fabre's Micropolis.

Rooms With A View: Custom Furniture

After countless hours & an unmeasurable amount of hard work, our Room With A View is officially complete & open for viewing at the Jepson Center for the Arts. And while we're going to wait until the end of viewing period to reveal finished images of the room, we do want to go ahead & share with you a little bit about what went into the making of this room. They say it takes an army & we certainly had one helping us throughout this entire process. But we absolutely could not have done it without the guys at Coastal Wood Design & Forsyth Metal Works. They took our custom furniture designs & brought them to life & the room really wouldn't be what it is without them. Check out what went into making each piece below & then head on over to the Jepson Center to see our room, "Dr. Fabre's Micropolis," which will be on display through Sunday, October 26th.  

The Desk:

Constructed with grain matched, figured walnut slabs, which were then fitted with a 2" think Lucite leg. The Lucite is mounted with brass hardware that is faced with hand-turned, walnut washers. Through the Lucite leg, you can see the hand-stitched, leather file system. Both the file holder & pencil drawer are made of solid walnut, faced with hand-polished brass. The desk has been finished using a tung oil, as opposed to a stain, which is completely natural & green. 

The Pedestal:

Constructed from reclaimed heart pine from a Kentucky tobacco barn, the pedestal was then pickled & finished with a spray lacquered top & waxed bottom. 

The Wall Unit:

The hand-fabricated steel frame holds concealed shelves at a random height configuration. The steel has been finished to have an antique brass look. The wall system is balanced by a cabinet on one side & specimen drawers on the other, as well as a central portal to display art. All of the wood components are constructed using locally-sourced, domestic maple plywood.

We couldn't be more excited to be participating in Rooms With a View: Southern Style at the Jepson Center for the Arts! Our design team has been hard at work getting all the details of our room together & the finished product is really going to be something spectacular. Rooms With A View: Southern Style to showcase local & nationally acclaimed designers at the Jepson Center Oct. 23-25, 2014

SAVANNAH, GA….Rooms With A View: Southern Style has announced the six local designers who will join nationally acclaimed interior designers Phoebe and Jim Howard as they transform the Jepson Center for the Arts into a dazzling show house. The designers include John Deering, Paula Danyluk, Linn Gresham, Anne Hagerty, and Narissa West Brown/Gail Lawrence.

This inaugural event is certain to become an annual affair and will be something not to miss. Following Phoebe Howard’s mantra, “keep it pretty,” the Jepson Center’s Eckburg Atrium will be overflowing with lavishly decorated rooms created exclusively for Rooms With A View.

The public is invited to stop by the Jepson Center to view the rooms free of charge.  Additionally, the Telfair Academy Guild is mounting three exciting ticketed events that will 

delight foodies and those interested in lifestyle and design topics, while raising money for Telfair Museums, including the Mansion to Museum exhibit at the Telfair Academy.

Preview Party: Thursday, October 23, 6:30 pm / Jepson Center

Preview the rooms and mingle with friends while enjoying cocktails and cuisine by local restaurants including: A.lure; Alligator Soul; Marché de Macarons; 45 Bistro; Garibaldi Cafe; Leoci’s Trattoria; The Olde Pink House; Vic’s on the River; 17hundred90 and Savannah Coffee Roasters. Tickets for the Preview Party are $85.

Lecture & Luncheon: Friday, October 24, 10:00 am / Savannah Theatre & Telfair Academy

Phoebe and Jim Howard speak at the Savannah Theatre, followed by luncheon at the Telfair Academy and another chance to view the rooms. Tickets to the Luncheon and Lecture are $75. For table requests, contact Ann Hanley at 912.598.9217 or athanley@bellsouth.net. Lecture tickets are available to purchase separately for $40.

Muffins and Mimosas: Saturday, October 25, 10:00 am / Jepson Center

Join our six Savannah designers, John Deering, Paula Danyluk, Linn Gresham, Anne 

Hagerty, and Narissa West Brown/Gail Lawrence for muffins, mimosas, and inspiring advice about creating a look of relaxed elegance in your own home. Then follow the designers to their rooms for personal tours. Tickets to Muffins and Mimosas are $35.
