mother's day scrip

You want to ride boldly and with confidence into Sunday on a white horse and avoid your moms thinking you're a bit of a jackass.  Please take to heart two from the list below. Then call Paris Market in the morning to make a plan of action. Mother's Day is this SUNDAY, 5-10-15!

1.  Moms do NOT want sensible pajamas or sugary edibles. Ever. Really.
2.  Find a beautiful basket/receptacle/vessel. Yes. We always can appreciate and/or use another.
3.  Think themes or interests and fill that basket up. Nothing need be over the top. Thoughtful is the answer.

4.  Including one flower element is advised (dried, cut, potted, paper).  Consider researching the flower that symbolically best suits the mom you are appreciating.
5.  One hand-made element is compulsory. Take the time to help the children (if applicable) make or write something. Take double the time to do so if you are the partner/spouse/child/grandchild leading the household's efforts.
6.  Remind the household that parents should be made aware, in word and deed, of your gratitude often and throughout the year.

Vintage Find of the Day : Courtroom Anatomy Charts

It's always exciting when you think you know an item's history and then you find out its intent is something completely different. Discovering the actual context reveals a fresh perspective that only makes the object all the more desirable. Such is the case with our vintage medical prints, which we originally thought were just charts for Doctors and medical specialists. Beautiful as they are as simple anatomical diagrams, learning they we're actually used in courtroom proceedings instantly made all of our heads turn with curiosity. Dating back to right around the 1960's, each chart is printed with simplistic, legible type and bold black and white diagrams of human anatomy. It's no surprise that removing the charts from their original context allows them to become works of art, worthy of hanging on a wall. However, placing them in context adds a level of intrigue that makes each print a beautiful and interesting piece of history.

As an artist, I couldn't ask to work in a more inspiring place. The Paris Market, in so many ways, feeds a part of my creative soul many other brick and mortar outlets are hard pressed to find. A true feast for the mind lies within these walls (I may be a bit jaded but to me its the truth). Finding inspiration as a blogger isn't hard here, nor is it hard to walk away with some piece of design influence to use in my own home. 

In 2013, I have resolved to concentrate on the details.

To look at life, art, and self with a set of fresh eyes. 

And to be true to myself, I work in a place that concentrates on just that. Whether its the turn of the century light bulb mounted on a frame and turned into a piece of art, or the fungi covered table setting that brings the true meaning of garden party; the Paris Market has always celebrated the unique, forlorn items of the past and turned them into something to be treasured and adored.

So here's to the New Year, to slowing down, to filling our lives with the love of worlds past, and to realizing that the world is not just Black and White but an array of beautiful shades of Grey.
