Vintage Find of the Day: Engineering Plans

We are absolutely swooning over one of our most recent vintage finds: engineering plans from a Pennsylvania-based firm, Reading Company, dating to the the early 1900s. Although these plans may show seemingly boring things like switchboards, lighting fixture installations, & cable & control rod ducts, we think there is something truly beautiful in their precision. We've all heard it before: "they just don't make things like they used to," & this is one instance where that is absolutely the case. From the durability of the old wax vellum to the meticulousness of each hand-drawn line, we're so glad these plans have stood the test of time. We took the liberty of framing two of them so you can get an idea of how to display them, but there are many more unframed ones to choose from. So be sure to come by the store soon so you can take a truly wonderful piece of history home with you!

Throwback Thursday: Halloween Costumes

With Halloween being only a day away, we felt it was only right to dedicate this week's Throwback Thursday to the Halloween costumes of yesteryear. While we certainly have our own unique brand of costumes living in a city full of art students, there's just something rather remarkable about these vintage costumes. Maybe it's just that the black & white of the photographs make them seem especially nostalgic or the fact that even though times were much simpler then, it's evident that people still dedicated a great amount of thought & effort to making elaborate costumes. Either way, we can't get enough of all these amazing costumes! Check them out to get some inspiration for your own costume this year & have a Happy Halloween!

Vintage Find of the Day: Books of Another Era

It's always an exciting day when a new collection of vintage books arrives. Although it may be a cliche, we're still firm believers in never judging a book by its cover, especially when it comes to vintage books! More often than not, they're in languages we can't read, but we never mind because so many delightful treasures and surprises still lie within. The past few days we've been pouring over our latest collection. Each book is filled with a myriad of intriguing old photos, diagrams, victorian illustrations and beautiful typographic elements and we can't seem to avert our eyes elsewhere! Vintage books always manage to transport us to another era and we're excited to see where the rest of our collection will take us.
