Throwback Thursday: Halloween Costumes

With Halloween being only a day away, we felt it was only right to dedicate this week's Throwback Thursday to the Halloween costumes of yesteryear. While we certainly have our own unique brand of costumes living in a city full of art students, there's just something rather remarkable about these vintage costumes. Maybe it's just that the black & white of the photographs make them seem especially nostalgic or the fact that even though times were much simpler then, it's evident that people still dedicated a great amount of thought & effort to making elaborate costumes. Either way, we can't get enough of all these amazing costumes! Check them out to get some inspiration for your own costume this year & have a Happy Halloween!

Currently Inspired: Shells and the Sea

Living on the coast it's no surprise that the ocean is a major source of inspiration for us. Whenever life begins to feel overwhelming, a trip to the sea always manages to remedy us with its placid disposition. Of course, there are times when traveling to Tybee Island is easier said than done, which is when we search for new ways to keep us inspired at home and in the workplace. Fortunately for us aquatic lovers, our shelves have filled up with all kinds of summery shells and intriguing sea creatures that have just washed ashore. Starfish, sand dollars, sea fans and sea urchins have been transforming the Paris Market into a tranquil source of nautical inspiration. And we simply can't get enough! Stop by soon and discover a world of natural curiosities!

Friday Favorite: John Derian Decoupage

Generally speaking, Fridays are good days. The weekend is right around the corner, people are in good moods, relaxation is on the horizon, but on a day like today, when a new collection of decoupage plates by John Derian Company arrives at your doorstep, it's no longer just a good day, it's a great day! John Derian marries two of our favorite things, vintage finds with everyday homegoods. He never ceases to amaze us with his prolific output of inspiring decoupaged plates, platters, paperweights, coasters and bowls. Each one is its own work of art, but his products really come to life when arranged together into collections. As excited as we are for the weekend, it's safe to say we're even more excited about our latest John Derian arrivals. Enjoy a few of our favorite collections below and have a great weekend!

On the Table: English High Tea

Maybe we're just romantics but we've always relished the idea of English Afternoon and High Tea. Being intentional about taking a break in the day to share a cup of tea and a bite to eat with your family is unfortunately much less common than it used to be. We always strive to enjoy the moment we're in and make the effort to be intentional about our time, but we can't deny there are times when life gets busy! It's in these hectic moments that we like to remind ourselves of what's really important, which is why with our latest tablescape we've looked to English High Tea for inspiration. For us, the table is a daily reminder of what matters most; friends, family and the experiences we share together. Bon appetit!

Color Story { black }

Halloween is undoubtedly inspiring a lot of our decision making around the store lately and with our orange-inspired collection last week, it only seemed appropriate to showcase Halloween's other staple color, black. Besides, who doesn't love the color black? Attempting to display all of our favorite products would be an impossible task, however there are a few items that we continue to return to as Paris Market classics. From Kaweco pencils to Laguiole cheese utensils, baker's twine to forged iron nutcrackers, these products may not all be Halloween themed, but they are nonetheless some of Paris Market's best.

A Few of our Favorite Things

We would like to welcome Cole to The Paris Market team! A native of Savannah, Cole grew up exploring all parts of this beautiful town, inspiring him to eventually pick up a camera. According to Cole, the camera has always been a part of his life. From family portraits to road trips across the United States, photography was always there to document the events of his life in helping him to see its true value and purpose. A recent Savannah College of Art and Design graduate with a B.F.A in photography and a minor in graphic design, he realizes although his college career is over, learning never stops. Everyday is a chance to get better and create something new. One of the most genuine people you will ever meet, Cole brings his infectious smile to work everyday and always makes the workplace a fun atmosphere. Be sure to check out Cole's website with all of his wonderful photography or stop by the store to see some of his prints in person!

With back to school right around the corner we've been hard at work preparing our displays for the busy season! Keeping an artist's studio in mind, we've lined our entry table with a creative, colorful vignette that is filled with John Derian plates, colorful pillows, natural manzanita branches and the lovely aromas of Archivist candles. Featuring the wonderful paintings of Simoni Trapsioni, this tabletop display is such an inspiring little nook in the store that undoubtedly greets each customer with a burst of creativity.
